The Black Star Line shipping company was an initiative of the Universal Negro Improvement Association spearheaded by Marcus Mosiah Garvey. The corporation illustrated and helped spread Garvey's Pan-Africanist political movement. The modern Black wealth movement in America stands on the shoulders of past initiatives such as the Black Star Line and the various "Black Wallstreet-Esq" business and commerce centers located throughout American Black neighborhoods post-Reconstruction.
